EPSB Trustee Sue Huff has decided not to run in the 2010 autumn election. Huff is the only EPSB trustee to use a blog to update readers on upcoming board agenda items and other educational-related items. Her detailed posts communicated many issues in a timely and clear manner.

District7 wishes Sue Huff all the best in her future endeavours.

INTERESTED in running for school board trustee? Nomination papers for school board trustee candidates are now available online.

2010 is a civic election year. On Monday, October 18, elections will be held for mayor, city councillors, and school board trustees.

This year, the City of Edmonton will change from six wards to twelve for councillor representation. EPSB school board trustee wards remain at nine wards for the city.

... and, for that matter, District 7 will also follow school openings. Check out D7's News pages for media links.

Amazing that with all that over-capacity, Edmonton is still building new schools! Who knew?

EPSB's decision to close five schools is not the end of the story. EPSB intends to review more than 70 schools next year and it is likely that many of these will also be voted for "consideration" of closure.

In the meantime, the upcoming October Municipal Election will be this autumn. This election is an opportunity to elect city councillors and school board trustees. Consider running for school board trustee, or assisting with a candidate's campaign.

District7 will also continue to follow school closure issues.

In a stunning upset, the EPSB board continued along exactly the same path as predicted.

No schools were saved from the axe.
